As Chairman/CEO and Co-Founder of Globetrotters, Niranjan Shah leads a well-established and highly regarded international firm that is responsible for managing hundreds of millions of dollars in budgets for consulting, engineering, and management projects. In addition to his leadership role at Globetrotters, Niranjan Shah has received numerous awards that recognize his role in the Chicago business community, and his commitment to public service.
During its early years, the firm participated in various federally sponsored programs by the U.S. Small Business Administration, as well as the U.S. Minority Business Development Agency. Under Niranjan Shah’s leadership, with the assistance of some of these programs, Globetrotters has established itself as a role model for small and minority-owned businesses in the Midwest region.
In addition to his business leadership, Niranjan Shah has been very involved in public service and places great importance on giving back to the community. Mr. Niranjan Shah’s philanthropic spirit pushed him to provide support to those less fortunate. His generosity extended from small villages in India to areas of need in the United States. The following are examples of some of the recognition and awards Mr. Niranjan Shah has received over his lifetime.
The Ellis Island Medal of Honor
The Ellis Island Medal of Honor pays tribute to various ancestry groups. It is comprised of American’s unique cultural blend. Held each May on Ellis Island, this award is presented to influential leaders of various disciplines and ethnic backgrounds who uphold the cherished ideals and enhance the influence of American society. The recognition pays tribute to the heritage of those groups that comprise America’s unique cultural mosaic and extraordinary individual achievement. Mr. Niranjan Shah was given this unique privilege to join past medalists including six U.S. Presidents as well as highly acclaimed academics, entrepreneurs, sociologists, and Nobel Prize winners.
Congressman Joseph Crowley gave a speech in Congress saying, “Mr. Niranjan Shah is an asset to the United States and his efforts are deserving of this prestigious award. Mr. Shah fully embodies the commitment and values that the Ellis Island Medal of Honor represents.
Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award
Niranjan Shah was awarded the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award in 2006 by the government of India. The award was presented to him by India’s President A.P.J. Kalam in Hyderabad on January 9. This is the highest civilian award given to people of Indian origin, to recognize contributions of the Indian Diaspora to India. His contribution to India has been especially unique due to the wide spectrum of involvement from providing support to small villages to promoting improvements in the US foreign policy towards India.
Glory of Gujarat Award
Niranjan Shah was presented the Glory of Gujarat 2005 Award by the Governor of Gujarat in recognition of his contributions to his home state in India.
Niranjan Shah was invited by President Bill Clinton to participate in The Economic Conference in 1992. This conference focuses on the economic problems of the nation and seeks effective, proactive solutions. Niranjan Shah was asked to participate to help the President-Elect and Vice President-Elect craft a national economic strategy that puts people first.
Presidential Mission on Sustainable Energy and Trade
The White House sent a Presidential Mission, headed by U.S. Secretary of Energy Hazel O’Leary, to India. At President Clinton’s request, Niranjan Shah accompanied Secretary O’Leary on this mission. India is the world’s largest democracy and an important partner in the region. Developing India’s economy and its partnership with the United States starts with energy security and energy independence. That mission drove energy to the top of the U.S.-India agenda and helped strengthen the relationship between India and the United States.
