Globetrotters provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design and construction administration/ inspection, and close-out services for this new 105,000 SF three-story, cutting edge, prototype elementary school for the Chicago Public Schools. The building achieved LEED Gold Certification; the required energy analysis is calculated on a heating/ cooling efficiency approximately 40% greater than a traditionally designed building.
The school program consisted of classrooms, science labs, computer rooms, faculty offices, administrative office space, general use space for students, gymnasium, kitchen/ dining areas, music rooms, and a library.
All fan and pump motors are specified as highly efficient and are supplied with VFD drives. Condensing boilers are installed and the Building Automation System is designed to maximize the Economizer Mode of operation. Pipe-to-pipe Heat Recovery Units are provided on each of the five Air Handling Units to minimize energy consumption for both heating and cooling.
In addition to mechanical systems, Globetrotters provided power distribution, lighting systems and controls, 150 KW emergency generator and associated distribution system, and the following systems: rescue assistance, fire alarm, intercom, intrusion detection, clock, public address, and assisted listening device.
Globetrotters provided biweekly site inspection reports and punch lists, and assisted with the LEED Construction Verification and Commissioning programs.
