Globetrotters provided civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services for the New Colin Powell 6-8 Middle School in Matteson, IL. The school was developed on a 34.5-acre site, using a $28 million Bond Issue for funding. Design population for the school was based on a maximum of 1,000 students, with initial construction slated for 750 students. The state-of-the-art facility features wireless computer technology. All of these programs had funding for construction available from various governmental agencies and private companies such as Exelon (ComEd). This school serves as a link between the community, village government and the school in common and shared usage.
The school was designed to include the use of “green” energy features including daylighting and a geothermal energy system. The geothermal system includes the largest geothermal pond in Illinois.
