John Stroger, Jr. Hospital is a new 1.24 million SF state-of-the-art publicly funded hospital with 464 beds, and enhanced emergency room and Level 1 trauma center.
As a part of a joint-venture team Cook County Design Group, Globetrotters was responsible for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and communications design and was noted as the Engineer of Record for this $300 million project. Globetrotters was also responsible for the provision of construction administration and post-construction services.
The project included a 1,122,000 SF replacement hospital and out-patient treatment facility, 60,000 SF Power Plant, 30,000 SF kitchen, 700-car garage, and the remodeling of 59,000 SF of the existing School of Nursing building on 1900 W. Polk Street. The overall development also included medical equipment, the demolition of existing Children’s Hospital building, and the expansion of the parking structure.
All work throughout the facility met JCAHO accreditation and complied with all applicable codes.
