Sewer Improvement Design for the City of Chicago Department of Water Management

From 2001-2018, GEC performed numerous projects for Chicago’s Department of Water Management to improve the city’s massive sewer system. These sewer improvement projects included design and construction inspection involving civil engineering, topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, and obtaining soil borings and pavement cores.

Our team designed improvements for sewers ranging in size from one to seven feet in diameter and reconstruction for more than 50 blocks of streets. Structural work included underground connecting structures and water main supports.

Our services included preparing sewer plans, profiles, final contract documents and specifications, and engineers cost estimate (for PC), and utility plot and verification; providing coordination, site surveys, ADA ramp design, maintenance of traffic design, and utility conflict resolution; and obtaining permits from regulatory agencies such as IDOT and MWRDGC.
